Deal Pier — Kent's only pier — returned to its original deep-bowl lantern style with a durable coastal finish and integrated back shielding, plus colour-changing feature lighting at the entrance and café.
Pier Lighting Upgrade
Deal Pier, completed in the late 1950s, is a key part of the area's heritage and a structure that has watched the shoreline change across many years. Formed from strong concrete and steel, it remains the only pier in Kent, giving it a unique identity within the region. Its distinct address, No. 1 North Sea, captures its sense of place and its link to the open water. Visitors come to walk along its length, enjoy the sea views, fish at all times of the year and experience the peaceful rhythm of coastal life.
Originally the pier was lit using a deep bowl lantern and the Local Authority were keen to return to this style, but the fitting had to be durable enough to withstand coastal winters. We also needed to consider that one deep bowl luminaire would spill light across the water, and this would have to be minimised whilst keeping the bowl looking fully lit. Using our 3-stage coastal paint solution and a clever integrated back shielding solution we managed to create a sympathetically lit pier. For the main entrance and café we added a colour changing element to bring that seaside feel.

Quantum Flex is a sealed, flexible lighting system that replicates the look of classic neon but using energy-efficient LED technology. Its diffused silicone body offers consistent light output and produces a uniform lit effect across its entire surface, with no glare.
Link is a contemporary LED pedestrian luminaire designed to bridge the gap between functional night-time safety and daytime aesthetic simplicity. It is primarily used for lighting car parks, parks, gardens, and cycle paths.
