EOS Lighting Solutions designed and installed more than 300 metres of bespoke IP67 LED linear lighting to relight the living wall at Westfield London, replacing 550 1x28W T5 luminaires whose bottom row the growing foliage had hidden. The wall is now lit evenly from the top in warm 3000K, on a timed schedule that gives the plants their night-time rest, with the project completed in May 2020.
Westfield London's living wall is a piece of nature in the middle of the city, and it grows and changes every season. Its original lighting used 550 IP-rated 1x28W T5 luminaires, joined side by side in two rows, at the top and bottom of the wall, but as the foliage grew the bottom row became hidden and the wall was left patchy and unevenly lit. Westfield needed a lighting solution that would show off the whole wall as the planting matures, while also protecting the health of the plants.

Bespoke Lighting Design
EOS designed a complete bespoke lighting system for the living wall. Rather than lighting it from two rows, the new design lights the whole wall from the top, so the light reaches the planting however much the foliage grows.
Bespoke IP67 LED Linear System
EOS designed and installed more than 300 metres of bespoke IP67 LED linear lighting, replacing the original 550 1x28W T5 luminaires. The IP67 rating protects against water and dust, essential for a wall that is regularly irrigated. Warm 3000K LEDs bring out the natural greens of the planting and give the wall a soft, welcoming look.
Bespoke Bracketry
Custom bracketry was designed to mount the linear system along the top of the wall at the right position and angle. This lets the light wash down across the full height of the planting, clear of the foliage.
Timed Lighting Control
The lighting runs on a timed control system that switches the wall off overnight. This gives the plants the dark rest period they need to stay healthy, while keeping the wall lit when the centre is open.
